Goodbye Apero, Hello Book
December 10, 2023
You may have noticed a pretty dramatic appearance change to this site. I made leap from the wonderful Hugo Apero theme over to the Book theme. The former is well suited to academics with insight to share. The latter is oriented towards documentation.
Why the change? #
As I reflected on what was actually making it to my site, I realized the bulk of the content was really just a bunch of rough notes. The site was mainly a stash spot for information, a lot of it reference material reworded for me.
It wasn’t polished enough to warrant a blog-oriented design; a lot of what I had on the site was loose bits of thought.
Things I gained #
The biggest thing I gained with this change is simplicity. More simplicity == lower friction == easier to get myself to work with this site.
Things I lost (for now) #
I have a ship it
mentality - which means I have a propensity to get things out the door in a somewhat unpolished form sooner rather than later. I don’t like dwelling or obsessing on details that ultimately might never matter.
As such, there are a lot of rough edges with this transition. Certain niceties that I previously had did not carry over immediately.
I intend to close the gap between the old design and the new design eventually. For now, here’s a listing of what was lost.
-
Utterances posts (I even had a whole post about getting that set up initially)
-
Formspree contact form, available with the Apero theme.
-
RSS feed
There are probably a feww more things I’m not accounting for.
